Cell phone pouches and holsters can be great options for carrying and protecting your phone. Unlike cases, pouches and holsters require the phone to be removed in order to be used. Pouches have some type of clasp that holds the phone in the pouch, whereas holsters have an open top. Understanding what to look for when purchasing one, the variety of materials they are made of, and different types of belt clips they can come with will ensure you find the pouch or holster that is right for you.
When purchasing a cell phone pouch or holster, look for one that has an inner lining to protect your phone from scratches. Some cheap holsters and pouches currently on the market have no inner lining, and the result may be scratches on the shell or screen of the cell phone. Also, look for high-quality material, and stitching that is clean and does not leave sharp edges.
Cell phone pouches and holsters can be made of leather, plastic, hydrofoam, neoprene, or nylon:
Leather - Leather cell phone holsters and pouches provide exceptional protection and an easy way to carry your phone. These generally come with a spring-loaded belt clip that may be stationary or ratcheting.
Plastic - Plastic cell phone holsters provide quick access to the phone and come with either a stationary or ratcheting spring-loaded belt clip. A good plastic holster makes it easy to snap the phone into place and provides ample room to grasp the phone to remove it. While these types of holsters provide little protection to the phone, they do provide a convenient way to carry it. For some phones, a premium rubberized plastic holster may be available, which will provide added cushion for the phone when being put into and taken out of the holster.
